Here at Navigation Academy College Consulting, we know that planning for college can be stressful.

We are here to help!

Planning for college can be a stressful and confusing process.

Here at Navigation Academy, we know you have many questions about how college admissions, financial aid and scholarships work. It is our primary goal to guide high school students and their parents through this process. If you’re a high school student, you might be struggling to come up with a good list of schools, and if you’re a parent, you’re probably wondering, “How am I going to pay for my kid’s college education?”

Our college planning services include:

We are Walter and Jora Odom.

We launched Navigation Academy to provide comprehensive, accessible college planning services. Between the two of us, we have over sixty combined years of experiences in college education, scholarship management and academic advisement – and we use that experience to help students find, get into and pay for college.

Navigation Academy College Consulting will support you and guide you through the college admissions process, but it’s your grades, activities, test scores and college applications that will get you accepted into college!

Get an Early Start

We recommend that you start thinking about and
planning for college as soon as possible!

Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”

We also know that students and parents may have very different priorities for college, so we work with you both to discuss your goals and your financial needs.

Planning for college is important because higher education often sets students up for their careers, income and lives, so we want to help students and their parents think long-term about the schools they want to attend and the requirements they need to complete. The earlier you start planning for college the better, and we can help you with everything from locating college scholarships to setting up visits at schools on your list.

We know the college planning process is extensive, so here are some questions to start thinking about:

For Students

Are you prepared academically for college?

Have you taken the PSAT, SAT/ACT?

Are you involved in extracurriculars?

For Parents

What are your goals for your child’s higher education?

Do you have any financial limitations?

Our College Planning Services

The college admissions process has many steps and can be extremely stressful for both students and parents. Don’t worry! We will be there with you every step of the way. From our very first consultation to the day you accept an offer for admission, our services are designed to help you weather the storm of college planning.

Below is just a small selection of the services we offer:

Guidance:

This is perhaps our most important service. Unlike many other college admissions counseling programs, we work with students and parents as partners. We will constantly check in with you to make sure you have the resources you need, and help you set realistic goals based on your skills and interests. We can help you develop a list of colleges that are right for you, walk you through testing requirements and even help you identify extracurriculars that will boost your student profile.

College visits:

Academic opportunities are important, but so are college life and culture. Once you’ve come up with a list of schools, we can help you set up some college visits. Once you’re there, you can speak to representatives from Admissions and/or Financial Aid, you can sit in on a class, tour the campus and ultimately decide whether it’s a good fit!

College applications:

When it’s time to start filling out applications for the list of schools you’ve worked so hard to develop, we can help you with that as well. As part of our college admissions consulting services, we monitor your applications, so you meet your deadlines, look over your essays and ensure that you put your best foot forward.

Financial aid and scholarships:

Thinking about how to pay for college is an important step in the college admissions process – and often the most nerve-wracking. That’s where we come in. We can help you fill out your FAFSA®, look for available scholarships that suit your profile and work with colleges to locate additional funds based on merit and need. We know that for many parents, paying for college can be a significant source of stress, and we want to make this process run as smoothly as possible.
